Wedding Checklist
First and foremost, CONGRATULATIONS on deciding to spend the rest of your life with the person you hold closest to your heart. Love is by far the greatest emotion in life and the most powerful unifying force in the world. We hope that you find this checklist useful and look forward to helping you plan your Dream Wedding.
#1 Get Engaged
Now that you have that ring on your finger it's time to start planning your dream wedding. FYI, the average engagement in the United States is 16 months. So the sooner you start, the more prepared you will be and the more fun you and your loved one will have planning the start of your lives together.
#2 Announce Your Engagement
Your beau has asked you to marry him, you have a beautiful ring on your finger... so who do you tell first? Well if you are like most brides you will either call your mother or your best friend. No matter who you decide to tell first, you will need them to keep the news under wraps for a day or two until you have contacted those most important people in your lives.
#3 Enjoy Your Engagement
Now that you have come down from the high of getting engaged, it is recommend to take a week to 10 days to enjoy the engagement. Once you have had some time to enjoy the moment and celebrate the good news--it is time to start planning. Sit down together, take out a calendar and start circling dates you would like to celebrate your big day on. Remember this is Wisconsin and if you like it hot, June, July, August and September are your best bets. May and October could also be nice, but you never know. If you are looking to save on costs you may want to choose the off-season.
#4 Get Organized
Start a wedding folder. Begin going through magazines and searching online for bridal, fashion, design, lifestyle and food for inspiration. Pinterest is a great social media outlet for ideas.
#5 Prepare Budget
Based on what you and your groom have to spend as well as your family's contribution, figure out what you have to spend. *** See our 2018 Lake Geneva Wedding Costs page.
#6 Wedding Party
Start thinking about your wedding party. As soon as you announce your engagement, friends and family will start wondering who is going to be in? It is important to decide how big your wedding party will be and who you will choose to stand up with you on the most important day of your life.
#7 Make an Invite List
Before you can begin to start planning your reception, you will have to determine how many people you plan to invite. This will be crucial when it comes to choosing a venue and planning your catering and bar service. Obviously, your list will change a bit along the way, but it is a good idea to get a ballpark figure of how many people you plan on sharing your amazing day with. A good tip is to ask your recently married relatives for their invite lists and use those as a starting point.
